Withernot is a stellar follow on Instagram and when I started to see the tags for “FW25”, I asked founder Patrick Hunter Hill if he’d mind providing some background on his upcoming collection. He obliged and below is some wonderful insight to his process.
Patrick wrote… “At Withernot, each season doesn’t come from a big corporate
calendar or a stack of trend reports. It’s a small shop process that
starts with inspiration and ends with a handful of limited drops. I
spend an inordinate amount of time deep in Pinterest, flipping through
old National Geographics and outdoor gear magazines, and studying
vintage rugby shirts, fishing catalogs, and camping gear from past
decades. That research sparks ideas for new designs: colors, stripe
layouts, themes, and fabrics that feel timeless but still fresh.
This
fall, the theme is rooted in the outdoor scenes I love most: fly
fishing in cool rivers, hiking wooded trails, camping under starry
skies, surfcasting and driving along the beach, and ending the day with a
bonfire. Those moments guide the palette and the styles. The releases
will be small as usual, each design made in limited numbers so they feel
more like discoveries than just another product drop.”
“Now in year five, we’ve really found our groove with the rugby shirts. The construction has been refined over time with custom-milled heavyweight fabrics, collars that keep their shape, and stitching that stands up to wear. I’m proud of where we’ve landed, and I think these shirts hold their own alongside the vintage pieces that first inspired Withernot.
We’ve also been lucky to build a loyal base of customers who keep coming back and sharing the brand with their friends. That support has allowed us to grow, both in reach and in product offerings. The rugby shirt will always be at the core of Withernot, and there’s no better piece for the fall season. They’re substantial enough for crisp mornings, easy to layer when the weather cools, and built for everything from tailgates to evenings by the fire.
The process is slower, a little more obsessive, but that’s exactly what makes Withernot what it is.”
