Ed Ford, one of Veniards Pro Team Members, got talking to us about how he’s been focussed on Nymphs. His two local waters have been the testing ground for these patterns and the results have been stunning!
Ed Ford will be attending our Open Weekend, March 6-8th, representing Veniard. He’ll be tying these Nymphs during the Open Weekend, so if you have any questions regarding this pattern or any others that he’ll be tying, be sure to pop in and have a chat with him!
Tying these is a very simple process: Hook sizes 14, 16 and 18 jig hooks, beads in gold or my preferred silver in various sizes ranging from 2.4mm to 4.8mm, black 8/0 wisp thread, approx. 6 Coq De Leon fibres for the tail, Veniards Stickle dub for the body with either a silver or gold Veniard French wire no 27 for the rib, for the hackle I am splitting the thread and using more stickle dubbing to create the hackle then spin the thread and wrap as a hackle behind the bead. These are tied in various colours but all with stickle dub range of colours.
They have become my go to nymphs and the reception they got at Bffi was great, to me they don’t look that hard to tie, very simple, scruffy and buggy so that when they are wet they are irresistible to both Trout and Grayling, also few of my mates have had Salmon using them.
I will be tying a few mayflies as well using pre made detached bodies that someone has asked me to show them while they are there at the shop.
