Father and son team Geoff and Mark Cowan had a real day to remember fishing a lake venue in late December. Geoff had broken his long-standing PB earlier in the year with a super 30lb 5oz fish, so he was probably still on a high from that feat and not expecting to get a fish that stamp again for a long, long time…
The guys had an early-morning start and were on the lake at 8 or so, and Geoff had a deadbait rig set up using a float as the indicator. Shortly after 9, the float disappeared, and Geoff struck into something big, which swam off strongly. They knew it was a very big fish when they coaxed it up to the surface and brought it to the net. But they were gobsmacked when it tipped the scales at a whopping 42lb 6oz, just 6oz shy of the existing Irish record! To beat your PB twice in such a short time and to just shave the Irish record in doing so is something most of us could only dream of, so a round of applause is in order for Geoff 👏 👏 👏 👏
