Today we are taking a closer look at a pattern recommended to Steve for his upcoming trip to the Ribnik in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The suggestion comes from a respected angler and guide for the Ribnik, Renato OpenCar.
Renato, who has spent countless hours fishing the river, explained that most of the fishing there calls for small flies tied to fine tippet. Curious about the tying method, Steve wondered if red thread might be a better choice, since the fly itself is largely red. Renato explained that although red dominates the pattern, black thread remains the best option.
Steve opts for a size 14 hook, but these can be tied to size 12’s as well. These look absolutely brilliant and would be perfect for fussy Trout on a small river. Get some of these tied and get out catching!
All materials needed to tie this fly are available from Glasgow Angling Centre or Edinburgh Angling Centre as listed below, as always, if you need any help finding materials or substitutes, then we’ll be happy to help.
