Chris Scally from Fish Tales Guiding was having a tough few weeks as the pike had seemed to switch off the feed. And it wasn’t just his own midlands patch that was proving difficult, but the word from the various angling guides all around the country was that pike were just sulking. So, when he had a scheduled guiding trip with a father and son duo Simon and Josh, he wasn’t feeling too positive about how the trip would play out.
But angling always has a way to surprise you, and despite the weather on the day being less than appealing, they managed to have a real re-letter day, with 8 good pike to the boat and plenty of action with missed takes and dropped runs. Best fish of the day was a fine 105cm/20lb fish which both father and son played a part in landing.
