Redington releases new EDC fly rods | Hatch Magazine

Redington has released a new do-it-all fly rod series the company is calling its “most innovative” fly rod ever. According to Redington, the new series — dubbed the EDC or “Every Day Carry” — is built using the highest quality materials the manufacturer has ever used in rod construction. Aimed as a multi-application tool, the new series is fairly expansive, featuring a robust 15 models.

Even as a brand that focuses squarely on affordability, over the years Redington has brought to market a number of rods that have been heralded for their performance and design. The brand’s wildly affordable Classic Trout series of rods has been a longtime favorite of casting instructors and dry fly purists, and has been a staple in the Redington lineup for as long as most of us can remember. The Redington Hydrogen, which was discontinued years ago, was also an angler favorite, heralded for offering excellent performance for a fraction of the price of many big name competitors.

Though time will tell, it might be the Hydrogen that the new EDC series can best be compared to. Both were multi-application series and both sat atop the Redington lineup as the brand’s flagship freshwater offering. If the EDC, which Redington is touting for its performance and technology, offers anglers a similar price-to-performance ratio as its multi-application predecessor, then fly fishers likely have reason to pay close attention.

Maxing out at $349.99, the new EDC rods range from 4-weight to 8-weight, the series includes everything from models built for dry fly fishing on small creeks to ones built for battling big game species like salmon, steelhead, pike, and bass.

In its promo materials for the new rods — which includes a short video featuring flames, hatchets, lots of high-fives and, for some reason, skateboarding — Redington is marketing the new series using familiar language, dubbing the rods as “flawlessly functional” and claiming the EDC can handle everything from “delicate presentations on tranquil creeks, to battling a tank on big wate,r” adding that the new series “delivers both the power and finesse.”

The new EDC is available now from Redington and authorized dealers at an MSRP ranging from $329.99 to $349.99. We’ll be getting these new rods on the water soon, stay tuned for a review.
